SRINAGAR : A fierce encounter ensued in Tral in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti was scheduled to visit today.
Official sources said on a tip-off, security forces launched a search operation at Tral, about 30 km from here in south Kashmir this morning. However, when the area was being sealed, militants opened fire, they said, adding security forces also retaliated.
The operation was going on when the reports last came in, they said.
They said PDP president was scheduled to visit the residence of her party MLA Mushtaq Ahmad to condole the death of his brother.
However, due to encounter, the visit has been cancelled for security reasons. (AGENCIES)
