Sir,
Refer article ‘Finland phenomenon’ DE May 12. The author has given a vivid insight into school education system of a small country Finland. The inputs provided in the article are very important from educational point of view.
However, one wonders whether this system will work in a country like India spread over large tracts of land, and having a multitude of cultures and numerous languages.
At present, education in India is a commercial commodity to be sold at exorbitant prices and making a profit out of it. Quality education is available only to rich people who can afford it easily. While the poor section has to remain content with sub-standard education.
In India education prepares a student for meeting the economic requirement, and not spiritual and moral upliftment. The chaos, the country is presently in, is largely due to the education system. There is urgent need to reform it.
Yours etc….
