JAMMU, Nov 7: First batch of Himalayan Heritage Trekking Programme comprising students and teachers of Oriental Academy Higher Secondary School returned, here.
The batch returned after a wonderful sojourn into the glorious past of our country through Tawi Trekkers J&K, the pioneer trekking organization which has started this noble mission of exposing the youth of the state to world famous Indian heritage through adventure programmes in order to imbibe in them the love and pride for the country and its glorious past and of course, the spirit of adventure.
The major highlight of this heritage cum adventure venture was a visit to the historical Kangra Fort which was built by the Katoch dynasty about 3500 years back.
The students were fascinated to learn that once this colossal fort had unimaginable treasurers in its 12 wells and the fort was witness to thousands years of grandeur but was invaded many times by greedy invaders like Mahmood of Gazni and Mohammad Bin Tughlaq of Turky- just in quest for treasures. The students were also excited to learn that the famous brave king Poras who fought valiantly with Alexander the Great belonged to this place.
The visit to the sacred and most ancient Jawalajee temple, the holy place of nine eternal flames considered to be the manifestations of nine Durgas, was also a spiritually satisfying experience for the children.
The trekkers were also delighted to visit the elegantly laid out beautiful tea gardens spread across thousands of acres of land on the outskirts of Dharamshala. They also learnt the complete process of production of tea in a tea manufacturing company.
Besides, with the base camp at Chamunda Devi, the trekkers also visited Macleodganj, the seat of HH Dalai Lama, Bhagshunag, the beautiful waterfall and the picturesque cricket stadium at Dharamshala.
