Five arrested after dowry demand victim commits suicide

JAMMU, Dec 18: Five persons were arrested after a woman, victim of dowry demand, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her in-laws house in Darsopur area of Miran Sahib on the city outskirts last night.
As per police sources, the family members of a woman, who allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself last night in Miran Sahib village today staged a protest alleging that she was murdered by her in-laws for dowry.
The deceased, identified as Kajal Devi, wife of Vishal Kumar, was found hanging at her in-laws house Darsopur area of Miran Sahib area here on the city outskirts last night.
The family members, relatives and locals today morning staged the protest outside Police Station Miran Sahib and also blocked the road.
The protestors demanded arrest of deceased’s in-laws and others alleging that she has been murdered.
“We have arrested five persons identified as Surjit Lal, his son Vishal Kumar and wife Bachno Devi, all residents of Darsopur, Miran Sahib, Rajinder Kumar, son of Romesh Lal and his wife Preeti Devi, both residents of Dabber, Bishnah on the allegations levelled by the family members and they are being questioned as part of investigation”, a senior police official said.
After conducting post-mortem by Board of Doctors at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), the body of the deceased was handed over to legal heirs for last rites.
Meanwhile, police team led by SDPO RS Pura Shabir Khan and assisted by SHO Miran Sahib Inspector Mirza Sultan pacified the protestors assuring justice following which they dispersed and traffic resumed.
However, a case under FIR Number 135/2021 under Sections 304-B and 109 IPC has been registered at Police Station Miran Sahib against the arrested persons at Police Station Miran Sahib and investigation started.
