Five J&K Sports Climbers selected in North Zone team

JAMMU, Nov 14: Five J&K Sport Climbers have been selected to represent North Zone Sport Climbing team in the National Sport Climbing Competition to be held at Bengaluru from December 21 to 24, 2023
The statement said that Shilpa Charak, Kafeel ul Haq, Arun Deep Singh and Ankit Singh have been selected on the basis of their performances in the North Zone Sport climbing Competition whereas Shivani Charak has been given a direct entry in the National Competition as she was representing the country in the 19th Asian Games, Hangzhou when the North Zone Competition was held.
J&K team had given a creditable performance in the North Zone Sport Climbing Competition by winning 1 Gold medal, 4 Silver medals and 3 Bronze medals, besides Gold and a Bronze medal in Lead and Speed Climbing by Arun Deep Singh and Kafeel ul Haq had bagged two silver medals in Speed Climbing and Bouldering and a Bronze medal in Lead Climbing. Similarly Shilpa Charak had bagged two silver medals in Speed and Lead Climbing and Ankit had grabbed a Bronze medal in Speed Climbing.
Accordingly, while Shivani Charak and Kafeel ul Haq shall compete in all the three forms of climbing in the National Championship and Arun Deep Singh shall compete in Lead Climbing and Bouldering. However, Shilpa Charak and Ankit Singh shall compete only in Lead Climbing and Speed Climbing respectively.
Meanwhile, Shivani Charak has come back to India after participating in an Olympic Qualifying Competition in Indonesia in which, despite her best efforts, she could not qualify for the Paris Olympics -2024. However, she shall remain at Delhi for almost a month for practice and training on the international standard climbing walls so as to prepare herself adequately for the forthcoming National Championship.
