Srinagar, Jan 6: The Female Multi Purpose Health Workers (FMPHWs) working under the Health and Family Welfare Department have been left to live life of penury and destitution as the Government has not released their salary from the last 10 months.
About 1000 FMPHWs are employed in Family Welfare section of the Health Department. But they have not been paid their salary from the last 10 months.
“Some workers are without salary from 8 months and some from 10 months. We are facing immense financial problems and are living the life of penury,” Neelofar Shabir, President FMPHWs body said after leading the workers in a protest here.
She said they have time and again appealed to their department to release their salary but nothing happened.
“We had met Minister for Health and Medical Education before Eid ul Fitr. He had assured us that our salary will be paid before Eid. But it was not paid,” Neelofar said.
An official in the Health and Family Welfare Department said the FMPHWs’ salary case is pending in the Planning Department from several months.
The official said the funds for the salary of these workers were paid by the Center Government in four installments in a year, with one installment paid for 3 months. But in the last year fewer funds were paid to the department so it could not pay the salary to these workers.
“The Center Government told us to get the salary from the State Government which will be reimbursed to it later. We have sent the proposal to the State Planning Department and it is pending there from the last many months,” the official said.
The FMPHWs said that after the Polio drops programme on January 15, they will intensify their struggle for the release of their pay.
