JAMMU, July 17: General Secretary of Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), Vikram Malhotra today demanded foolproof security and basic facilities to Shri Amarnath pilgrims in Kashmir valley.
Addressing a gathering of prominent persons at historic Shri Ram Temple at Purani Mandi, Jammu, where he visited to take a stock of facilities being provided to the pilgrims, Vikram Malhotra expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made by the temple management for the visiting pilgrims.
He specially lauded the overall support and supervision of Mahant of the temple, Swami Rameshwar Das Ji Maharaj, who is taking care of all arrangements for the pilgrims in the temple premises round the clock.
Former Minister and senior Congress leader Sham Lal Sharma also graced the occasion with his presence.
In his address, Vikram Malhotra also took a dig at both the State and Central Government for their failure to ensure proper security and comfortable stay of the pilgrims at different halting points, especially in the Kashmir valley, which is presently under turmoil due to protests over killing of local militants, few days ago.
He urged upon the Government as well as Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board authorities to plug the loopholes to ensure incident free and successful completion of the annual pilgrimage.
The Congress leader, however, expressed his happiness over resumption of the yatra from both Jammu and Srinagar, as thousands of pilgrims remained stranded at different places for a couple of days, who faced many hardships during this period.
On this occasion, Vikram Malhotra was also felicitated for being always in the forefront for the public cause.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Ajay Sawhney, Babu Shah, Akash Dogra, Atul Sharma, Sanjay Malhotra and others.
