Forest official convicted in corruption case

JAMMU, Aug 14:  The Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Kashmir, Srinagar, has convicted one Firdous Ahmad Bhat, the then Jr Assistant, DFO Office Peerpanchal Division Budgam to under go simple one year imprisonment and fine of Rs 10,000 for corruption.
He was arrested  on 15-12-2006 while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from the complainant. During the course of investigation it was established that the accused official had demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 3,000 from the complainant for processing/providing NOC in connection with the installation of Wooden Joinery Planner in favour of the brother of the complainant. The investigating officer had prima facie made out a case of Criminal Misconduct against the accused Firdous Ahmad on the basis of evidence oral, documentary as well as circumstantial.
On completion of investigation, the charge sheet was produced against the accused before the Court of Special Judge Anti-corruption Kashmir by Vigilance Organization on 24-05-2007 and on conclusion of the trial the court found the accused guilty and convicted him to undergo simple one year imprisonment for the commission of offence under Section 5(2) J&K P C Act and fine of Rs  10000 for commission of offence under Section 161 RPC.
The accused was also ordered to undergo further imprisonment of three months in default of payment of fine. The case was ably and successfully prosecuted by the Senior Prosecuting Officers of Anti Corruption Court. The accused was taken into custody on the spot and sent to Central Jail Srinagar.
