Four J&K boxers enter quarterfinal round, qualify for National Game of India

JAMMU, Jan 11: Four Jammu and Kashmir boxers outclassed their rivals and entered into the quarterfinal stage of the ongoing 1st Elite Men National Boxing Championship at Nagpur, Maharashtra.
Apart from entering into the quarterfinal round of the 1st Elite Men National Boxing Championship, the J&K boxers also registered their entry into the National Game of India to be held at Kerala from January 31 to February 14.
Out of seven J&K boxers, who created history by entering into the pre-quarterfinal round in 1st Elite Men National Boxing Championship yesterday, only four boxers of the State continued the pace of winning in this championship.
In 49 kg category, Pardeep Sharma of J&K routed Sumit Bansi of Goa, whereas in 52 kg category, Madan Lal of J&K lost to Sandeep Bagri of Tripura.
In 60 kg category, Dheeraj of J&K beat Anil Kumar of Bihar and in 69 kg category, Ashish Jasrotia crushed Gera Ram of Meghalaya.
In 75 kg category, Harpal Singh of J&K defeated Joginder Kumar of New Delhi, whereas in 88 kg category, Nizam of J&K lost to Brijesh of Mizoram and in 91 kg category, Zahid of J&K was defeated by Gungae of Sikkim.
The J&K boxing squad has been led by Anil Kumar Wadhera, senior boxing coach, J&K State Sports Council and Dr Nirmolak Singh, general secretary, J&K Boxing Association.
The six-day long 1st Elite Men National Boxing Championship is being organized by Maharashtra Boxing Association under the aegis of Boxing India Federation at Nagpur, Maharashtra.
