SRINAGAR, Aug 12: National Conference while expressing concern over incidents of hostility at the Line of Control and the International Border, has said that friendly ties with Pakistan should be given a priority since both India and Pakistan have a lot to lose due to friction and animosity between one another and both countries conversely have a lot to gain from mutual respect, bilateral ties and cooperation.
National Conference additional general secretary Dr  Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal has said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir were both the worst victims of hostility between India and Pakistan and are also the biggest beneficiaries of peace and trust between the two countries and its people.
He said that more Confidence Building Measures should be initiated through J&K to bring New Delhi and Islamabad closer. “The Cross-LoC Trade and Cross-LoC Bus Service were initiatives between New Delhi and Islamabad in the right direction that we supported whole-heartedly. National Conference will support all initiatives aimed at peace and amity”, he added.
Lashing out at war-mongers and radicals who are opposed to friendly ties with Pakistan, Dr  Kamal said that these people were driven by a destructive and communal tendency of creating strife and engineering polarization for political benefits. “We have witnessed how forces inimical to peace have tried to disrupt negotiations between India and Pakistan on numerous occasions in the past and how the same elements are trying to polarize the situation in J&K ahead of Assembly Elections. We should discourage such sabotage by choosing not to be cowed and misled and should not stop talking”, the NC leader stressed.
