JAMMU, June 23: Azad Cricket Tournament concluded at Supwal in Samba when Gagor Cricket Club, Vijaypur lifted the title trophy, defeating Nai Basti Cricket Club, Supwal in the summit clash, here today. Earlier, batting first, Nai Basti Cricket Club Supwal scored a paltry total of 75 runs which were easily chased by Gagor Cricket Club.
20 teams drawn from Vijaypur, Supwal and adjoining areas participated in the Tournament. Monu of Gagor Cricket Club was adjudged man of the match for clinching 3 crucial wickets in the title clash, while Vickey of Nai Basti Cricket Club was declared as man of the series for scalping 11 important wickets in the Tournament.
Senior Leader and Provincial vice president of Women Wing of the National Conference Satwant Dogra was the chief guest on the occasion who distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams.
Speaking on the occasion, Satwant Dogra congratulated the organizers of the Azad Cricket Tournament for organizing the tournament in rural area of Samba and said that such tournaments channelize the energy of youth in positive direction.
She asked youth to come forward and participate in sports activities which are essential for the overall growth and development of youth.
She further said that she is committed for the development of Samba and in particular the sports infrastructure including swimming pool, facility for indoor games and a gymnasium.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Youth Leader Anil Singh Sambyal, Sarpanch Mani Ram Sharma, Ajay Sambyal, Sardar Varinder Randhawa, Surinder Attri, Rakesh Sharma, Sonu Sambyal, Amar Nath, Surjeet Kaur and Raj Kumar.
