SRINAGAR, May 16: Gamboora cricket team won the Hazarpora champions league T20 cricket tournament at Kandhama Budgam.
Hazarpira team won the toss and elected to bat first.
The team managed a total of 97 runs in allotted 20 overs. In reply, Gamboora Team the target of 98 runs in 16 overs for the loss of just four wickets. Showkat Ahmad was the highest scorer of the match with unbeaten 51. He was declared man of the final match. The final match was sponsored by District Sports Council Budgam.
Deputy Commissioner Budgam Mir Altaf Ahmad who is also Chairman of District Sports Council was the chief guest on the occasion of closing ceremony of the tournament while Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Vice Chairman District Sports Council Budgam and Divisional Sports Officer Kashmir were also present.
Addressing the players and the local people who were present at the closing ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Budgam said sports activities are important for the overall physical and mental development of the youth. He also said drug addiction among the youth is a big threat for the society. He appealed the parents and senior citizens to play their role to curb drug menace.
Deputy Commissioner also assured the local people that Hazarpora Sports field will be developed by Sports Council. He gave on spot direction to concerned Naib Tehsildar to identify an alternate piece of land to shift a school building which has become an impediment in the playground.
District Sports Council Budgam provided trophies, cricket bats, uniforms, Volleyball and nets to the local players to boost the sports activities in the area.
