Gandhi-Mandela Cricket Series enters its second leg

JAMMU, Sept 20: The Gandhi-Mandela Cricket Series for special children of Jammu and Kashmir entered its second leg.
Today a match was played between Jammu Kandi and Jammu Border at Col Sir R N Chopra Sports Ground, IIIM Jammu, Canal Road, in the presence of Director IIIM Dr Ram Vishwakarma, Kulraj Singh, District Social Welfare Officer Jammu, Padmashri S P Varma Gandhi Global Family President J&K and other dignitaries.
Manish Joshi, Organizing Secretary Jammu introduced both the teams to Dr Ram Vishwakarma.
In his chief guest address, Dr Vishwakarma encouraged both the teams to participate with the full spirit of fair play and teamwork, which would help them in building peaceful and non violent future.
Kulraj Singh thanked Padmashri Varma for the tireless efforts of GGF volunteers, under his leadership, to make this tournament possible in-collaboration with United Nations.
Later, he briefed that this unique tournament will offer unprecedented opportunities to more than 700 special children to participate directly in 22 districts of J&K State, while thousands of others will get motivated.
Mr Varma explained the primary motive of this unprecedented initiative focused on the Special children, those who have no one in this world, was to bring together the people of the State through medium of sport, cricket, which is considered a quasi-religion in Indian subcontinent.
Later, Jammu Kandi won the match by 29 runs. Gold and silver medals were presented to wining Jammu Kandi and Jammu Border respectively.
