JAMMU, May 16: Elaborating on Government’s keenness to overhaul sports facilities in the State, Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Parkash Ganga has said the sports infrastructure is being revitalized and upgraded with tremendous support from the Centre.
Minister stated this while addressing the sportspersons and sports lovers after inaugurating the cricket tournament organized by Mahal Shahan Cricket Club at Vijaypur today.
Ganga, while highlighting measures being initiated to give a fillip to sports facilities in the State, said it is the endeavor of the present dispensation that a comfortable and favorable environment is created for sportsmen to excel in various sports. “Sports has the potential and scope of saving youth from being swayed towards drugs and other social ills by channelizing their energies in the right direction”, he asserted.
“We are trying our bit to provide ample sports infrastructure besides ensuring growth of lesser known sporting disciplines having potential in the State”, the Minister maintained. He said the Government is focusing on unearthing young talents as sports have a prospective to foster a positive social change besides improving health standards.
The Minister spelled out broad contours of measures being taken to popularize and sharpen sports talent by providing best facilities to State’s players. The purpose, he said, is to have best of the sportspersons to represent J&K in various tournaments. The State’s budding players would be trained in the potential games so that they carve out a space for themselves in the national contingents, he said assuring all possible Government help in this regard.
Among others, senior officers of district administration besides PRI representatives and locals were present on the occasion.
