JAMMU, Aug 24: The Department of Chemistry, Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) here today organized one day national webinar on ‘Chemistry towards a Sustainable Future’ in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, UIET Chandigarh under Twinning Initiatives of TEQIP III.
The webinar was organized to acquaint the faculty and students with the area of drug development and a sustainable chemistry by design under the chairmanship of Talat Parvez Rohella, Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Department.
The webinar commenced with the welcome address by the Coordinator, Dr. Anita Brar, Head of Chemistry Department and then the Organizing Secretary, Dr. Raman Gupta carried the proceedings.
During the webinar, Dr. Naveed Qazi, Principal Scientist, IIIM Jammu talked about “Introducing Oxo-Phenyl acetyl as a Protecting Group for Carbohydrates: Application towards the Synthesis of API” and Dr. Renuka Rai, faculty from UIET Chandigarh delivered lecture on “Sustainability: Beyond Benign by Design”. The entire session was very interactive and insightful.
Dr. Sameru Sharma, Principal GCET appreciated the efforts of the Coordinator Dr. Anita Brar and the organizing team including Dr. Raman Gupta, Dr. Neerupama and Dr. Rajinder Singh, Assistant Professors, Department of Chemistry.
The webinar was registered by around 331 participants comprising of students and faculty of various engineering institutes besides GCET Jammu and UIET Chandigarh that made the event a grand success.
