JAMMU, Oct 7: Government College for Women (GCW), Parade Ground, Jammu, celebrated the ‘World Wildlife Day’ on the auspicious occasion of its Internal Quality Assurance cell.
The programme included a Poster-making competition on the theme ‘Save Tiger’ and a lecture on ‘Wildlife Protection’ by Tahir Shawl, Wildlife warden, Jammu. The students were also shown two films on wildlife, viz ‘Gharana Wetland and its Migratory Birds’ and ‘Wildlife of J&K’.
Mr Tahir Shawl also deliberated at length on various issues like man-animal conflict, rehabilitation of wild animals and impacts of habitat destruction.
Neha Singh of B Com Part-III stood first in the poster-making competition, while Asha Sohil of BSc Part III and Nalini Rakhwal of BA Part III bagged second and third prizes respectively.
The Principal of the College, Dr Hema Aggarwal in his address said that such programs abet the students to gain exposure on real-life and factual scenario regarding different issues concerning wild animals and acquaint them with know-how to deal with situations when faced in surrounding areas.
Dr Pragya Khanna, Head department of Zoology conducted the proceedings of the program while DR Sushma Mahajan, convenor, IQAC presented the formal vote of thanks.
Others present on the occasion were Range officer, Wildlife Protection Department, Jammu, Balwant Sharma, Dr Poonam Kamotra, DR Bhavnaish, Prof Umesh Kailoo, Dr Neelam, Prof Nidhi Kotwal, Prof Sadhna Tripathi, Dr Archana and Dr Shaista.
