GDC Kathua lifts Inter-Collegiate Judo women title

JAMMU, Dec 1: Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua claimed inter-collegiate women Judo title, organised by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at Gymnasium Hall, here today.
GDC Kathua clinched the overall trophy by securing 18 points, while PG Department remained runner-up by securing 16 points.
In 48 kg, Jimmo Devi (GDC Kathua) and Shilpa Devi (GDC Jindrah) stood 1st and 2nd, while Mandeep Kour (GDC Kunjwani) and Priya Sharma (GDC Khour) shared bronze medal, while in 52 kg, 1st and 2nd positions were secured by Hrmila Devi (GDC Basholi) and Kamal Sharma (GDC Kathua), while third position was jointly clinched by Nitika Sharma (GWC Parade) and Anjali (GDC Jindrah) and in 57 kg, Anshika Manhas (PG Deptt.) clinched gold, while Shilpi Baloria (GDC Basholi) won silver and bronze medal was shared by Rohni Sharma (GDC Paloura) and Deepasha Choudhary (GDC Kathua).
In 63 kg, top two positions were secured by Kashish Sharma (GDC Kathua) and Pratiba Sharma (GCW Kathua) and bronze medal was shared by Mahika (GDC Kunjwani) and Rashika Honda (PG Deptt.), whereas in 70 kg, first two places were won by Priya Sharma (PG Deptt.) and Monika Sharma (GDC Khour), while 3rd position was jointly won by Mansi Dogra (GWC Parade) and Palak (GDC Kathua) and in 78 kg, Seevanshi (GDC Kathua) secured gold, while in 78 plus kg, gold and silver medals were secured by Diksha Jasrotia (PG Deptt.) and Anmol Sharma (GDC Kathua) and bronze medal was jointly won by Tanisha Sharma (GWC Parade) and Nidhi Verma (GDC Paloura).
Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, JU awarded the trophy and medals to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Narinder Sharma, Goutam Sharma, Sanjeev Sharma, Roshan Sharma, Suman Sharma, Rajkumar Bakshi, Ravish Vaid and Dr Baljinder Kour.
In the Kho-Kho men category, GDC Udhampur beat GDC Sunderbani by 1 point, GDC Rajouri got better of PG Deptt. by 3 points, GDC Kathua trounced GDC Mishriwala by 1 point and GDC RS Pura defeated GDC Kunjwani by 8 points.
In the women’s category, GDC Doda got the better of GCW Parade by 1 point, GDC Kathua defeated GCW Kathua by 1 point, GCW Udhampur drubbed GDC Bhaderwah by 3 points and PG Dept. beat GDC Jindrah by 5 points.
In Basketball, PG Department of University of Jammu clinched the men’s Basketball title, while GCW Parade claimed the Basketball women title.
In the men category, PG Department beat GDC Kathua by 44-25 points, while GCW Parade outplayed GDC Udhampur by 28-12 in women category.
Chief Coach Basketball, Harjinder Singh posted in Sports Authority of India, Training Centre Jammu was the chief guest of the finals matches. He awarded trophies to winners and runners-up in the presence of Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Ravish Vaid, Vikas Karlopia, Shashi Sharma, Jai Bharat, Suman Lata and Sanjeev Sharma.
Earlier, in the semi-final matches GDC Kathua (M) beat GDC Udhampur (M) by 30-21 points and PG Deptt. (M) beat GCET Jammu (M) by 44-35 points in the second semi-final match.
