GCW Parade lifts Chess title; SPMR to take on PG Arts in football final

JAMMU, Sept 9: Inter-Collegiate Championships in the disciplines of Chess and Football, being organized by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education were played at different venues of Jammu University.
In Inter-Collegiate Chess Championship for women, GCW Parade thrashed PG Department, Jammu University and lifted the title trophy by 3-1. Sonali Manhas of GCW Parade beat Monika Thakur, Akriti Kotwal of GCW Parade smashed Mehak Bakshi, Hansja Sharma of GCW Parade crushed Geetanjali and Sushmita Jamwal lost to Navneet Kour of PG Department, Jammu University.
The match was officiated by SP Sharma, Sushil Kumar and PD Singh, Incharges Chess Competition.
Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu awarded trophy to the winning team in the presence of Suman Lata, PD Singh, Sushil Sharma, Jai Bharat and SP Sharma.
Meanwhile, SPMR College of Commerce will lock horns with PG Department of Jammu University in the final of the Inter-Collegiate Football Tournament for men at ground number 1, near main gate, University of Jammu on September 12.
Earlier in the first semis, SPMR College of Commerce outplayed ASCOMS by straight two goals to zero. The goal scorers were Raza in 20th minute and Pankaj in 24th minute.
In the second semifinal, PG Arts, Jammu University registered win over MBS College by 3-0 Stanzin scored the goal in 20th minute, Achal Sharma in 60th and 67th minutes.
The matches were officiated by Suresh Gupta, Vijay Kumar, Dheeraj Kumar and Gagan Kumar.
The Championships were being played under the overall supervision of Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
