JAMMU, Sept 28: Government College for Women (GCW) Parade and MIET Jammu lifted the Inter-Collegiate Chess women and men titles by beating GCW Udhampur and GCET Jammu respectively in their respective summit clashes of the ongoing Inter-Collegiate Chess Championship, organized by the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu at its Indoor Hall, here.
Atul Kumar Gupta, President All J&K Chess Association was the chief guest on the occasion, whereas Meenal Gupta, International Chess Medallist and State Awardee was the special guest.
Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu presided over the function.
While addressing the participants, Mr Gupta complimented all the participants especially the winners and gave few tips for achieving heights in Chess and thereafter awarded trophies to winners along with Dr Baba, Meenal Gupta and PD Singh.
In men’s section, MIET Jammu defeated GCET by 4-0 points, Kunal drubbed Manmohan Kotwal, Deepanshu Thakur defeated Rohit Raina, Ashutosh outplayed Dheeraj Anthal and Rajat Sharma trounced Adil Bashir, while in women’s section, GCW Parade defeated GCW Udhampur by 4-0 points, Simran Khatri Lushi Mahajan, Sonali Manhas trounced Sarika Manhas, Manisha Manhas drubbed Amisha Samsal and Apoorva Kangotra prevailed over Pooja Sharma.
Naina Sharma and Vaishali Abrol were the extra players of the GCW Parade and Monika Sharma was the extra player of GCW Udhampur.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were SP Sharma, Sushil Sawhney, Suman Lata, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Ramesh Magotra, Gagan Kumar, Ravish Vaid, Amit Pandoh, Jai Bharat, Harinderpal Singh, Sanjeev Pandey, Pardeep Sharma and students and staff of the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education.
