BILLAWAR, Feb 2: Government Degree College, Billawar celebrated their Annual Day cum Prize distribution function in the college campus, today.
Prof (Dr.) Nirmal Singh, MLA Billawar, was the chief guest and Jeevan Lal, MLA Bani, was the guest of honour on the day.
The day began with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest, guest of honour and principal of the college. All the dignitaries were given a warm welcome and were honoured by presenting bouquets and shawls of local make.
Principal of the college Dr Netar Singh presented annual report of college activities held throughout the session. In his speech he thanked all the dignitaries for sparing their valuable time and encouraging the students of Billawar College. He briefed about the various developments which were going on in the college and also highlighted the infrastructural and faculty needs of the college.
On the occasion various cultural activities like Dogri Dance, Patriotic Dance, Rajasthani Dance, Gidda, Semi-Classical, Bhangra were performed by the students. Rajasthani Dance was adjudged the best performance of the event by jury comprising Mamta Singh, Dr Ram Lal Upadhaya (Ex. UN Advisor) and Ravinder Mansotra, Exn. JKPCC.
In his address Dr Nirmal Singh MLA Billawar congratulated the college for organizing such a wonderful Annual Day cum Prize distribution function and assured all his help for the further development of the college in the form of infrastructural and academic excellence.
Jeevan Lal, MLA Bani also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of degree colleges in the far flung areas for the educational advancement of the backward areas.
Later the meritorious students including those who have excelled in the field of sports, art and culture were felicitated by presenting mementos and certificates.
Shriya Mahajan, Manika Sharma, Komal Sharma, and Chakshu compered the whole event. In the end Prof Amit Kumar Sharma presented the vote of thanks and the program ended with the singing of National Anthem.
