GDC Billawar, GDC Reasi register resounding wins

JAMMU, Jan 21: Government Degree College (GDC) Billawar and GDC Reasi scripted convincing wins over their rivals to advance in the ongoing Inter-Collegiate Men’s Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Directorate and Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at Varsity grounds, here.
In the first match, GDC Billawar outplayed GDC Samba by 48 runs in an easy contest. Batting first, GDC Billawar scored a decent total of 144 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process. Munesh Kumar was the top scorer with 60 runs in 51 balls, which included 7 boundaries and one six, while Surjeet contributed valuable 32 runs to the total. Bhanu Partap also chipped in 12 runs to the total. For GDC Samba, Aditya, Amit Singh and Rao Varinder claimed one wicket apiece.
In reply, GDC Samba bundled out for a paltry total of 96 runs in 18.3 overs thus lost the match by a big margin of 48 runs. Aditya Sambyal (27) was the top scorer, while Chandan Thapa and Anil Kumar chipped in 11 runs each. Gulshan was the pick of the bowlers for GDC Billawar, who scalped 4 important wickets by conceding 20 runs in his 4 overs, while Bhanu Partap claimed 3, Munish 2 and Rahul Sharma bagged one.
The match was officiated by Raman Kumar and Vijay Dogra as umpires, while Manu Khajuria acted as the scorer.
In another match GDC Reasi drubbed GDC Thannamandi by 8 wickets in a one-sided affair. Batting first, GDC Thannamandi collapsed at 70 runs in 17.5 overs. Umar Bashir was the only batsman to cross double figure mark by scoring 31 runs, while Afaq Mirza contributed 8 runs to the total. For GDC Reasi, Jitender Dev Singh claimed 3 wickets, Rakesh Kumar and Kulbhushan Sharma bagged 2 wickets each, while Jaswant and Abhishek picked one wicket each.
In reply, GDC Reasi chased the target in 11.2 overs by losing 2 wickets, thus won the match by 8 wickets. Anil Thakur, Arjun Singh and Sunil Kumar contributed 20, 18 and 16 runs to the total respectively. Haroon Rashid was the only successful bowler, who bagged 2 important wickets by giving away 16 runs in his 3 overs.
The match was officiated by Saleem-Ur-Rehman and Sadiq Hussain Malik as umpires, while Manu was the scorer.
