JAMMU, Sept 19: Inter-Collegiate Tournaments in the disciplines of Badminton and Basketball, being organized by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, commenced here today.
Inter-Collegiate Badminton Tournament for men and women commenced at Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu.
Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu inaugurated the tournament in presence of Prof Rakesh Kumar Gupta, GDC Udhampur, Sudhesh Kumar, GWC Udhampur, Prof Sumit Dubey, GDC Kathua, Charanjeet Singh, MBS College, Suresh Kumar, GCET, Sumnesh Sharma, GWC Gandhi Nagar, Suman Lata, GWC, Parade, Gagan Kumar and Vikas Karlopia.
In men section, GDC Rajouri beat MET Jammu, whereas in women section, MBS College defeated GWC Udhampur, GDC Kathua beat MAM College, GDC Udhampur smashed GDC Kathua, GWC Gandhi Nagar got walkover from GDC RS Pura and GWC Parade got walkover from ASCOMS Jammu.
The matches were officiated by Ravish Vaid, Vikram Jamwal, Taranpal Singh, Amit Sharma, Rakesh Kumar and Manmohan.
Meanwhile, in Inter-Collegiate Basketball Tourna-ment for men, GDC Hiranagar outplayed GDC Udhampur by a close margin of 24-23 in the opening match at MA Stadium, here.
The match was officiated by the technical panel of experts including Aman Sharma, Senior Basketball Coach, SAI, Ranbhir Singh, Vaneet Pangotra, Rajesh Bandral, Harpreet Singh and Mousmi Verma.
Amarjeet Singh, Senior Basketball, Coach SAI, Prof Rakesh Sharma, Anil Kumar and Vikas Karlopia were also present on the occasion.
The Tournaments were being conducted under the supervision of Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
