Inter Collegiate Championships

JAMMU, Sept 14: Inter Collegiate Badminton and Fencing is being organized by Department of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
JAMMU: GDC Kathua won the Inter Collegiate Badminton (Men) Tournament by defeating the defending champion GDC Udhampur in very close contest. GDC Kathua won 1st singles and got lead in the start of the match by 1-0 while GDC Udhampur marked its comeback by winning 2nd singles and 1st doubles and take the lead to 2-1. Again GDC Kathua equalized the lead to 2-2 by winning 3rd singles.
In the final match, GDC Kathua outplayed GDC Udhampur in the 2nd doubles and lifted the Inter Collegiate Badminton (Men) Tournament with final score on the board 3-2.
Akshay Mahajan of GDC Kathua and Dhananjay Sharma of GDC Udhampur both played extraordinary and won their respective matches.
Prof Neeru Sharma, Chairperson Campus Sports Committee, University of Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion who distributed the trophies and medals among the winners and runner ups.
Among others present were Raman Gupta, Ashok Kumar, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Vinay Manhas, Vikas Karlopia, Gagan Kumar, Pardeep Kumar and Harinderpal Singh.
The final match was officiated by Vikram Jamwal, Ravish Vaid, Rakesh Sharma, Gourav Sharma, Ankit Sharma and Sanjeev Sharma.
The Inter Collegiate Badminton (Women) Tournament 2018-19 will be held on September 17 from 10 am onwards.
REASI: On the 2nd day, various events were played in the Inter-Collegiate Fencing (M&W) Championship of University of Jammu, being hosted by Government General Zorawar Singh Memorial Degree College Reasi.
In Sabre (Women) Individual, Koefeeka of GCW Parade and Vishali of GGZSM Degree College, Reasi bagged gold and silver medals respectively, while the bronze medals were clinched by Sonia of GGZSM Degree College, Reasi and Radha Devi of GGZSM Degree College, Reasi.
In Sabre (Men) Team, GGZSM Degree College, Reasi and MIET Jammu secured gold and silver medals respectively, while GDC Poonch and PG Department JU bagged bronze medals.
In Foil (Men) Team, GGZSM Degree College, Reasi and MIET Jammu secured gold and silver medals respectively, while PG Department JU and GDC Udhampur secured bronze medals.
In Epee (Men) Team, GGZSM Degree College, Reasi and PG Department JU secured gold and silver medals respectively, while the bronze medals were clinched by GDC Udhampur and GDC Poonch.
Dr SP Sarswat, Principal GGZSM Degree College Reasi was the chief guest, while Dr Prem Singh, Suman Lata, Prof Eesar Ul Ayub, Shriya Chib, Prof Ajay Kumar, Managers of the various participating teams, staff and students of the GGZSM Degree College, Reasi were also present.
The Championships were being organized under the supervision of Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
