JAMMU, Oct 14: National Service Scheme (NSS) unit in collaboration with JK Bharat Scouts Guides units of college and Bird watching club of college organized two days Campus Bird Count on World Bird Migratory Day at Government Degree College Marh, here today.
The programme was inaugurated by Principal, Prof Rakesh Kumar Koul who also explained the mystic connection between birds and humans. He highlighted the role of birds for conservation of humanity.
The bird count was conducted by Sachin Kumar Bhagat , Assistant Professor in Political Science, who was recently awarded by the Chief Secretary and Forest Department for his contribution towards discovering rare species of birds and their conservation and awareness. Prof. Asha Kumari (HOD Geography) and Prof. Ram Dayal (HOD Maths) played a bird game with students in which the students identified the pictures of birds and their habitats and were excited about the event.
Students counted around 34 species around the campus including endangered Egyptian Vulture, Lesser Whistling Duck, Painted Snipe, Pied Kingfisher, Wood SandPiper, Common SandPiper, Cattle Egret, Pond Heron, and White Breasted Water Hen etc. Motivated and inspired about birds, students shared their feedback and experience on how they got connected with nature and chose their career in this field.
