SAMBA, Nov 29: An awareness workshop on Promotion and Implementation of Biotechnology Park (PIBT) organised by Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), GDC Samba was held here today.
The workshop was organised in collaboration with J&K Science Technology and Innovation Council.
The programme was aimed at educating the students, researchers and potential entrepreneurs about the opportunities and advancements within the biotechnology sector.
Prof. (Dr.) Twinkle Suri, Principal of the host College and chief guest inaugurated the event and highlighted the importance of Bio Technology and how it impacts varied aspects of our lives including agriculture, environment and industry.
She lauded the efforts of the IIC in organising such an informative and meaningful workshop.
Dr. Shally Sehgal, Central University of Jammu enlightened the students on the opening of a biotechnology park at Gatti Kathua and its immense benefits for the young students and researchers of the region.
Prof Rahul Sharma, PSPS GCW Gandhi Nagar reiterated that Biotechnology parks serve as innovation hubs where research, development and commercialization of biotechnological innovations take place.
Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist SKUAST & Guest of Honour for the event, in his address reiterated his commitment towards harnessing natural resources and biodiversity of Samba region.
The resource persons stressed that there was an imperative need to encourage a startup culture in the education institution, so that the young learners are empowered with sufficient employable skills.
Faculty and students from GDC Kathua also attended the programme.
Dr Ranjodh Singh, President IIC presented the formal vote of thanks, while Prof Surbhi Dubey compared the programme.
