JAMMU, Dec 16: GDC Udhampur defeated GCET Jammu by 3.5 – 0.5 points and lifted the men’s title in the inter-collegiate Chess tournament for men and women, organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, here today.
Aryan Mehra, GDC Udhampur beat Angad Singh Sodhi, while Rashiv Khajuria defeated Archit Mohan Sharma of GCET, Atul Kumar Angurana trounced Navdeep Singh of GCET and the match between Nitish Sadhotra and Ubaid Ali Mir of GCET remained draw.
In women, PG Department of Jammu University team beat GCW Udhampur team in the final by 2.5-1.5 points and won the tournament, wherein Sonali Manhas of PG Department beat Kiran Sharma, Mansha Mahjan of PG Department beat Divyanshi Rajput, Taruni Bakshi of PG Department lost to Manvi Sharma of GCW Udhampur and the match between Manisha Manhas of PG Department and Bhavna Sharma of Udhampur remained draw.
Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Sports University of Jammu and Dr Komal Nagar In-charge Assistant Director awarded trophies and medals to the winners and runner-ups of both men and women categories in presence of Dr Mandeep Singh, Vimal Kishore, Anil Kumar and others.
In Kho-Kho, in the final of the women’s tournament, PG Department, Jammu University defeated GDC Chenani by four points and clinched the winning trophy. The winners and runners-up players were awarded with medals and trophies by Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Sports.
The matches were officiated by Dheeraj Sharma, Palbinder Singh, Jagdev Singh, Anil Kumar and Pooja Sharma and Gagan Kumar.
