UDHAMPUR, Apr 29: To provide students with hands-on learning experiences and a comprehensive understanding of J&K’s vast and diverse geographical landscape, culture, economy, settlements, industries, and natural landscapes, the Department of Geography, Government Degree College Boys Udhampur organized a field visit in collaboration with IQAC for students to Patnitop.
A group of 50 enthusiastic students of UG-IV semester was accompanied by the faculty members and non-teaching staff of the department. The trip was formally flagged off by Principal of the college, Prof Romesh Kumar Gupta, in presence of Dr Ashok Sharma, Convener IQAC, Dr Jagjeet Singh, Staff Secretary of the college, Prof Naveen Kumar, Head Department of Geography, Prof Sanjay Kumar, Head Department of Philosophy, Prof Samosh Kumar, Head Department of Music, Prof Rakesh Singh Charak, Faculty of Physics, Prof Kaku Ram, Faculty of Management and Prof Sanjay Singh, Faculty of Geography.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Romesh Kumar Gupta said that the tour reinforces the department’s mission to nurture well-rounded geographers equipped with theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and a profound appreciation for the diverse landscapes that shape our world.
Speaking about the initiative the Head Department of Geography Prof Naveen Kumar said that the aim of this trip was to acquaint the students with the activities of tourism going on in Patnitop.
Around 50 students and ten staff members participated in the field trip. The students visited different locations and observed a variety of flora, fauna and tourist destinations. During the visit, students actively participated in various activities and explored captivating tourist destinations in the region, including the picturesque Sanasar Lake, Billo Ki Powri, Naag Mandir, and Shiva Garh. They interacted with diverse toursits, gaining valuable insights into their needs and preferences. One of the main highlights of the tour was the emphasis on the concept of homestays, where students learned how locals open their homes to tourists, creating a unique and enriching accommodation option.
The visit exposed them to real-world entrepreneurship practices and provided valuable guidance to nurture their innovative ideas.
