KARGIL, Sept 13: Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar, in collaboration with the Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Youth Services and Sports, School Education Department and Sports Authority of India Training Center Kargil, organized a Fit India Swachhta Freedom Run as part of the 9th Ladakh Zanskar Festival 2024. The event held under the banner of Swachh Bharat Swasth Bharat, attracted over 200 students from various schools across Zanskar Sub Division.
The 4-kilometer run featured two categories-Under-19 and Under-14 for both boys and girls. It was flagged off by SDM Zanskar, Romil Singh Donk and started from TFC Zanskar. The Run concluded at Dak Banglow via Pipiting and Khisharak.
In the Under-19 Girls category, Stanzin Zomskit from GDC Zanskar secured the gold medal, followed by Rigzin Dolma from Higher Secondary School Padum with the silver, and Padm Youdon from GDC Zanskar winning the bronze. In the Under-19 Boys category, Jigmet Akar from GDC Zanskar claimed the first position, with Sonam Rinchen from Lamdon School won second spot and Padma Namgyal from Higher Secondary School Padum secured third place.
In the Under-14 Girls category, Stanzin Dasal from High School Karsha took the gold, while Jigmet Lhamo from High School Karsha won silver, and Stanzin Chhuzom from Duzin Photang School earned the bronze. In the Under-14 Boys category, Stanzin Chhustar from High School Karsha won the first place, followed by Staznin Wangjor from Marpaling Lamdon School claimed second place, and Stanxin Minggyur from High School Karsha grabbed 3rd place.
The chief guest SDM Zanskar, along with other dignitaries awarded the medals to the winners. In his address, the SDM encouraged the participants to integrate running into their daily routines. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Nazir Hussain, Deputy Secretary of LAACL Kargil.
