General line teachers protest against Govt decision

JAMMU, June 22: General line teachers owing allegiance to General Line Teachers Forum held a massive protest in front of Press Club here today against the State Government decision to include five year honorarium period of ReT teachers for promotion benefits and transfer policy.
The demonstration was led by Neeraj Sharma president of the Forum. The protestors raising slogans against the Government said the decision will damage the career of 35,000 General Line Teachers in the State and effect their seniority.
By this decision seniors will become juniors as the General Line Teachers have been appointed through a process of law by SSRB on the merit and competition basis. In comparison to that the ReTs were engaged on honorarium basis and the ReT period is mere a criteria for them to become general line teachers, the Forum president said while addressing the protestors.
He said the ReT scheme is just like Rozgar Guarantee Yojna for those who could not compete through SSRB and they were engaged on concession basis by the Government so there is no comparison between ReT teachers and general line teachers who come through tough competition. So there is no ground in bringing ReTs at par with general line teachers so far as the seniority of the two is concerned.
Terming the decision illogical and wrong the Forum leaders said that this will discourage the faith of highly qualified youth in the system as ReTs are appointed on a simple application whose recommendations are made by local MLA and Sarpanch.
The Forum leaders were expressing surprise over Government decision said it was trying to take political mileage of the same and snatching the right of General Line Teachers.
