JAMMU, Apr 15: The Departments of Geology and Physics & Electronics registered convincing victories over their rivals in the ongoing Inter-Department Cricket
Tournament, being organized by the University of Jammu at Varsity ground, here.
In the first match, Geology Department defeated SHTM Department by 7 wickets in an easy contest. Batting first, SHTM Department scored 109 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 4 wickets in the process. Inder Puneet, Rajat and Shubam contributed 26, 22 and 17 runs to the total respectively. For Geology Department, Deepak took 2 wickets, while Vijay and Rajesh claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Geology Department scored 110 runs in 14.4 overs by losing 3 wickets, thus won the match 7 wickets. Sahil Sharma, Vijay Thakur and Mubarak contributed 40, 26 and 16 runs to the total respectively. For SHMT Rajat bagged 2 wickets and Ishan claimed one.
In another match, Physics & Electronics Department got better of Urdu Department by 12 runs. Physics & Electronics Department scored 144 runs, with Vishal, Vishal Choudhary and Anil contributing 33, 26 and 23 runs to the total respectively. PP Singh took 3 wickets, while Naseeb Ali claimed 2 wickets for Urdu Department.
Urdu Department managed to score 132 runs to lose the match by a narrow margin of 12 runs. Naseeb Ali and Barkat Ali contributed 45 and 29 runs to the total respectively. Vishal, Narotam, Chander Kant and Rohit Dogra claimed one wicket each for Physics & Electronics Department.
The matches were officiated by BCCI Level-1 coaches Suresh Singh and Saleem-ur-Rehman, besides senior cricketers Pankaj Sasun and NIS cricket coach, Raj Kumar Bakshi and Manu Khajuria.
The Tournament is being organised by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, under the overall supervision of Dhian Singh Bhau.
