MENDHAR, Sept 29: A 18-year old orphan girl was allegedly burnt to death by her aunt and cousin sister in Bafliaz area of Surankote in district Poonch today.
A police spokesman said that victim, Sonam Ara, daughter of late Sarwar Hussain of Bufliaz in her statement told police and doctors at Surankote hospital that her aunt Shahina Akhtar, wife of Mohd Ayub Khan (Chacha) and her cousin sisters, Rubina and Rozia allegedly poured kerosene oil on her body and set on fire. They bolted the room from outside and escaped. The victim also alleged that she was engaged with a boy in the relations and the aunt wanted to solemnize marriage of her daughter with that boy and planned to eliminate her.
The neighbours who listened the screams of poor girl, rushed there and shifted the girl to Surankote hospital. The doctors provided preliminary treatment and then referred her to Soura hospital in Srinagar. She succumbed to injuries on the way.
DySP Javed when contacted said that Shahina Akhtar and her daughter Rubina have been arrested and a case FIR No. 211/ 2012, under Section 302/ 452 RPC has been registered against them.
