NEW DELHI, May 20: Girls once again outshore boys in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class X results declared today, which recorded a pass percentage of 98.87, a marginal increase over last year.
The pass percentage of girls stood at 99.06 per cent as compared to 98.74 per cent of boys.
The overall pass percentage last year was 98.76 per cent.
According to a CBSE statement, the pass percentage in the Thiruvananthapuram region was the highest at 99.96 in the country.
The results in that region, along with Chennai region, were declared on May 19.
In all, 1,32,7250 candidates were registered for class X examination this year, an increase of about 5.51 per cent candidates over that of last year.
CBSE Class X results are reflected in grades.
The results were declared 10 days early as compared to last year, which CBSE said had become possible because of introduction of on-screen marking system.
This system is designed to help strengthen the evaluation process and minimising the scope for errors.
It was introduced in class X exams in all subjects and for all regions except Thiruvananthapuram region.
Answer books for these subjects were scanned and uploaded centrally and then downloaded at the evaluation centres online. No question is left unassessed under the system.
According to the CBSE statement, the past practice of applying for verification of grades at designated schools in case of regional office Delhi and respective regional offices (in other cases) has been done away with.
The applications for verification of marks will now be received online only.
The number of attempts for improvement of performance for Class X has been reduced to one from 2013 examination.
Candidates shall appear for the improvement of performance by July. However, for candidates who have appeared in the 2012 examination and placed in the category ‘improvement of performance’ shall get upto five chances.
The first chance for improvement of performance test under scheme II (those who took CBSE’s external examinations) will commence from July 16.
CBSE had three years ago introduced a new system under which there was no board examination for students studying in schools affiliated to the board and those who do not wish to move out of the CBSE system after Class X.
Students under this scheme are put through the school- based ‘continuous and comprehensive evaluation’ programme.
However, those who intend to move out of the CBSE system are required to take the board examination.
In its statement today, CBSE also announced the second phase of CBSE tele-counselling started from today and will continue up to June 10. (PTI)
