JAMMU, Nov 3: The cherished tradition of Dangal (Wrestling) made a vibrant comeback in Khandwal Panchayat, attracting a large community turnout that celebrated unity and cultural heritage, here today. The event, meticulously organized under the leadership of ex-Panch Bodh Raj, president of the Dangal Committee, highlighted the importance of preserving traditional sports in the region.
Ex-Sarpanch and senior BJP leader Sonam Deep Singh Aulakh graced the occasion as the chief guest, adding to the event’s significance. Aulakh passionately advocated for the promotion of traditional sports such as Wrestling, Hockey and Kabaddi, especially within the rural heartlands.
He emphasized that these sports are not merely games but vital components of cultural heritage that can engage youth positively, steering them away from drug addiction while promoting their physical and mental well-being.
“The importance of traditional sports in our culture cannot be overstated. They serve as essential tools for engaging our youth and ensuring their holistic development,” Aulakh remarked, garnering widespread applause from the audience.
He also urged J&K Sports Minister Satish Sharma to give priority to traditional sports, underscoring their role in fostering a healthy, active society. Aulakh announced plans for more such events throughout the rural belt of Jammu and Kashmir, indicating a concerted effort to revitalize interest in cultural and physical activities.
“Supporting and expanding these sports is crucial for providing constructive outlets for our youth that not only enhance their health but also strengthen community bonds,” he stated.
The successful organization of the dangal not only revived a beloved sport but also sparked aspirations for a broader revival of traditional sports across the region. Aulakh’s commitment to hosting additional events in rural areas was perceived as a hopeful initiative towards preserving these cherished practices and reinforcing their role in fostering resilience and a positive future for the youth.
