Srinagar, Nov 28: As the National Medical Commission (NMC) seeks details from the Medical Colleges across the country on suicides, resignations and working hours of Medical students, the Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar has formed a committee to look into the matter.
The officials told Excelsior that the committee shall examine the stress, if any, as well as the working hours of medical students while noting that no case of suicide and resignation by the medical students has been reported at GMC, Srinagar till date.
“The committee has not yet met and as of today, as per records available in GMC, no candidate has either committed suicide or resigned; the committee formed in this regard can give useful suggestions for further improvement and will identify the areas that need further attention,” the officials said.
In this regard, the Registrar Academics, GMC, Srinagar has stated in an order that the medical college received a letter regarding suicide, resignation and working hours of medical students from the National Medical Commission and accordingly, a committee is constituted to examine the grievances of medical students viz-a- viz suicide, resignation and working hours.
The Committee will have Prof. (Dr.) Sabiya Majeed, HoD Biochemistry, Prof. (Dr.) Mufti Mahmood, HoD Surgery, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Salim Khan, HoD SPM and Prof. (Dr.) Bilal, HoD Pathology as its members.
