JAMMU, Jan 23: Guru Nanak Nagar Club won the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sub-Junior (U-16) Hockey Tournament 2016 by defeating MBS Hockey Club Simbal Camp by 4-1 organized under the aegis of Hockey J&K by Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Foundation at KK Hakhu Stadium, here.
MLA Ch. Lal Singh was chief guest while Addl. DGP SM Sahai was the guest of honor at the concluding function held here today.
The tournament held between Jan 18 and Jan 23 saw participation by 10 local clubs and the final was played between MBS Hockey Club Simbal Camp and Guru Nanak Nagar Club.
Ch Lal Singh while interacting with the players congratulated them on their commitment and dedication towards the sports. He exhorted upon the youth to focus on their goals and put in dedicated efforts to compete and excel at national and international levels. He asked them to channelize their energies in positive direction and create a niche for themselves in the field of sports.
President Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Foundation Dr Taran Singh in his address said that the aim of the tournament is to promote the spirit of nationalism and the sport of hockey in the State. He said that such tournaments help to promote sports talent in the state and expressed hope that these young players will play and bring laurels for the State and country.
Yogesh Kumar from MBS Hockey Club Simbal Camp was declared as man of the match while Simranpal Singh from GNNH Club was declared as man of the tournament and 10 year old Sukhpreet Singh was awarded with ‘youngest upcoming player’ title. Fair play trophy was won by Shaheed Bhagat Singh Team.
