JAMMU, Dec 14: GD Goenka Jammu celebrated ‘Ahvaan’-2013 its Annual Function at Goenkan acres, here today.
The function was inaugurated by the chief guest, Ajay Sadotra, Minister for Planning, Development and Labour and Employment, while Devender Singh Rana, National Conference Provincial president was the guest of honour.
Kiran Wattal, Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation was the special guest, while Dewan Chand Bansal, Chairman of the School Managing Commitee, Sanya Bansal, Director and the Principal Jyoti Asija were present on the occasion.
The theme of the programme was ‘Unity in Diversity’.
Ganesh Vandana was performed by the students, followed by the saga of Indian Culture which was woven around dances selected from different States of India. The dances of eastern States of India were performed first.
Bihu came in first with the swaying movements and jumps. Then a dance from Nagaland and lastly a dance in honour of Maa Durga was performed.
Then the students danced on the foot tapping dance from the State of Goa. Dandiya from Gujarat, Ghoomar dance from Rajasthan and Lavani from Maharashtra were also performed.
The Dogri culture was showcased through a very vibrating dance. The beauty of Kashmir was brought with Rauf dance a part of Kashmiri Culture mainly involves foot work which is also termed as ‘ Chhakri’ in the local language.
The programme reached its height with the traditional Punjabi folk Bhangra.
At the conclusion was the Grand Finale which was the dissemination of different customs and traditions of India. The programme concluded with the nostalgic lines-‘Saare Jahaan se achcha Hindustan Hamara’.
Principal, Jyoti Asija in her address, highlighted the achievements of the school in the current academic session. She specially stressed on all the new ventures that the school had embarked upon in its strife for excellence and lauded the efforts of the staff and the students for the success of Aahvaan.
