Gokul guides PG Law to QFs; GDC Samba scripts huge win

JAMMU, Jan 15: Elegant left-handed batsman Gokul Baru scored masterful 70 runs off 52 balls to guide PG Law and Sciences to the quarterfinals of the ongoing Inter-Collegiate Men’s Cricket Tournament, being organized by the University of Jammu in the Varsity grounds, here.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Government Degree College (GDC) Rajouri scored a fighting total of 149 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 3 wickets in the process. Nadeem Ahmed played a brilliant innings of 71 runs which included 4 fours and 2 sixes, while Tahir Mehmood, Imran Shah and Ajay Kumar contributed 29, 26 and 23 runs to the total respectively. For PG Law and Sciences Himanshu Sharma, Gokul Baru and Ajay Kumar claimed one wicket each.
In reply, PG Law rode on a power-packed innings of 70 runs by Gokul Baru to chase the target in 18.5 overs by losing 4 wickets, thus won the match 6 wickets. Gokul smashed 7 delectable boundaries in his knock. Sheroz Malik and Ajay Kumar also contributed 26 and 23 runs to the total respectively. Imran Shah, Waseem and Sachin claimed one wicket each for GDC Rajouri.
The match was officiated by Amit Gupta and Vijay Dogra as umpires, while Manu Khajuria acted as scorer.
In another match, GDC Samba drubbed Bhargava Degree College by a big margin of 76 runs in an easy contest. Batting first, GDC Samba scored a good total of 147 runs by losing 9 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Nitish Sharma (29), Amit Sharma (25), Suresh (20) and Rao Virender (18) were the main contributors. For Bhargava College, Arjun Singh was the pick of the bowlers, who captured 3 wickets, while Nitin and Rahul bagged 2 wickets and Amit claimed one.
Bhargava College, in reply, bundled out for 71 runs in 13.5 overs, thus lost the match by 76 runs. Nitin (17) and Rahil (10) were the main contributors. Nitish Padha was the wrecker-in-chief for GDC Samba, who scalped 4 important wickets, while Amit Sharma and Suresh claimed 2 wickets each. Amit Singh and Aditya also picked one wicket each.
The match was officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik and Saleem as umpires, while Manu Khajuria maintained the scorebook.
