Gokul’s power-packed fifty takes NCC to quarters

JAMMU, Mar 5: Gokul Baru’s quick-fire 53 runs helped National Cricket Club (NCC) to thrash Shahenshah  Cricket Club and seal berth in the quarterfinals of the ongoing Salute & Tribute to Siachen Martyrs Cricket Tournament, being organized by Parade Cricket Association at parade ground, here.
Earlier, after winning the toss and batting first, National Cricket Club scored a good total of 168 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process. Gokul Baru was the top scorer with 53 runs off 37 balls, studded with 8 delectable boundaries, while Inderjeet Singh and Vijay Dogra contributed brisk 23 runs each off 14 and 12 balls respectively. While Inderjeet hit 3 fours and one six, Vijay struck 2 fours and one six in his unbeaten knock. Manish Dogra and Rakesh Kumar also chipped in with 21 and 15 runs respectively. For Shahenshah Cricket Club, Titas was the pick of the bowlers, who scalped 3 important wickets, while Orange bagged 2 and Manpreet claimed one wicket.
In reply, Shahenshah Club managed to score 86 runs in the allotted 20 overs by losing 6 wickets, thus lost the match by a big margin of 82 runs. Shafiq top scored with 21 runs, while Nitin, Manpreet and Shabir contributed 18, 12 and 11 runs respectively. For NCC, Mayank Gautam and Shiv Dutt took 2 wickets each, while Vijay Dogra and Pranav Mahajan claimed one wicket each. For his brilliant innings of 53 runs, Gokul Baru was declared as man of the match.
The match was officiated by Sant Singh and Sanju as umpires, while Amarjeet Singh acted as scorer.
