JAMMU, Oct 10: Police in Janipur area claimed today that they have arrested two gold snatchers.
A police spokesperson said that on October 9, 2023, a written complaint was lodged at Police Station Janipur by one Darshan Kumar (Krishna Jewellers) son of Shivnath of Channi Himmat, stating therein that some unidentified people snatched two gold sets, around 9 tolas, from him, while he was on way to deliver them to the customers.
On this, he said, a case FIR number 110/2023 under section 382 of the IPC was registered at Police Station Janipur and investigation started.
Post registration of FIR, he said, special teams of Police Station Janipur led by SDPO West, Vikram Singh, assisted by SHO Janipur, Inspector Sikander Singh, rounded up two suspects with the help of CCTV footage and human intelligence. They were later identified as Deepak Bagga and Vishal Kumar of Janipur Colony, Jammu.
During sustained questioning, the police spokesperson said that the accused confessed to their involvement in the crime and on their disclosure, the stolen gold sets weighing around 9 tolas were recovered from their possession.
Police are further investigating the matter.
