Goods carrier operators threaten to suspend Kashmir supplies

JAMMU, Aug 22: In view of the increasing attacks on oil tanker and truck operators in Kashmir valley, the goods carrier operators from Jammu region today threatened to suspend all types of supplies to Kashmir valley if the Government failed to provide security cover to the drivers from Jammu region.
Talking to media-persons here today, president of All J&K Goods Carrier Association, Harbans Singh, its senior functionaries Kuldip Singh and Charanjit Singh said that a large number of trucks have been attacked in entire Kashmir valley by the miscreants and mobs. The Government has totally failed to ensure security cover to the drivers maintaining essential supplies to Kashmir.
Unfortunately, instead of appreciating courage of Jammu drivers, the Kashmir people are indulging in stone pelting on their vehicles and also beating them. They said many trucks carrying food supplies, LPG cylinders, fresh vegetables, eggs, milk supply etc are being targeted by the miscreants. In the absence of security cover, many vehicles have been damaged.
They said until and unless they get full security and compensation for the damaged vehicles, they will stop entire operation and supplies to Kashmir. They gave one week’s ultimatum to the Government failing which they would suspend supplies indefinitely for Kashmir and Ladakh.
Prominent among other Association members present on the occasion included Sukhdev Singh vice chairman, Bachan Singh, Vivek Mehta-general secretary, Ajab Singh, Surjit Singh, B B Sharma, Janak Singh and S L Sharma.
