Governor advises CVC to speed up process against corrupt elements

SRINAGAR, June 2: Governor N N Vohra today advised State Chief Vigilance Commissoner (CVC) to speed up the process of the commission against corrupt elements in the state.
If transparency is to be introduced in the functioning of the public institutions, action against the corrupt elements was necessary, he told CVC Kuldeep Khoda, who called on Mr Vohra at Raj Bhavan here.
The Governor advised to speed up the processes of the Commission to see that the corrupt elements, particularly those occupying senior echelons, are effectively dealt with.
Earlier, Mr Khoda briefed the Governor on the current status of the work being done by the State Vigilance Commission and the special efforts which are being made to enhance the accountability of the administrative system.
Meanwhile, Dr. Tej Pratap, Vice Chancellor, Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Kashmir also called on Governor and briefed him about the ongoing research projects in the University for livestock development, establishment of the new Krishi Vigyan Kendras which have been sanctioned by the Government of India and the steps which have been initiated for ensuring that the existing KVKs perform a definite role in enhancing agricultural production and productivity in the State.
The VC informed the Governor about the issues relating to providing the required faculty strength in the University.
The Governor urged the VC to ensure that the Varsity plays a vital role in promoting agricultural and all related activities.
Meanwhile, Jagmohan Singh Raina, President All Sikh Coordination Committee (ASCC), called on  Mr Vohra and discussed with the Governor the role played by the Sikh community in J&K and rest of the country, their aspirations and their long pending demand for the grant of minority status for Sikhs in J&K; urgent filling up all the vacant posts of Punjabi language in the State’s educational institutions; provision of a special employment package for the economically backward Sikh youth etc.
The Governor observed that he would discuss issues of minorities with the Chief Minister.
