Governor-NAC discuss prevailing unrest in Kashmir, situation on LoC

SRINAGAR: Reiterating his appeal to people to maintain calm and contribute towards restoration of peace, Northern Army Commander (NAC) Lt General D S Hooda today discussed prevailing unrest in the Kashmir valley and situation on the Line of Control (LoC) with Governor N N Vohra today.

The present unrest since July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani and two other militants were killed in an encounter in Anantnag, has claimed 71 lives and more than 6000 others were injured in security force firing.

The NAC had earlier also appealed to people for peace and calm besides urged security forces to exercise maximum restraint while dealing with protests in the Valley. Lt Gen Hooda called upon the Governor during his day-long visit to the Valley and discussed the prevailing situation.

The Governor was apprised of the measures taken by the Army along the LoC and hinterland to ensure security as also to restore normalcy.

Earlier in the day, the Army Commander, accompanied by Chinar Corps Commander, Lt Gen Satish Dua, also visited Khanabal and Haiderbeg where he interacted with the officers and men and took first hand account of the ground situation. (AGENCIES)
