LEH, Aug 18: Governor N.N.Vohra, today visited Leh to participate in the Special National Integration Camp (SNIC) organised by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Directorate of J&K.
250 NCC cadets from all parts of the country are participating in this camp. On his arrival at the camp venue, the Governor was presented a Guard of Honour by the Cadets and introduced to the officers of the J&K NCC Directorate.
Governor observed that organisation of Special National Integration Camps, particularly in border areas of the country, have very high importance. Apart from inculcating discipline, courage, character and promoting national integration such camps provide a wonderful opportunity to the boy and girl Cadets to travel to far off places like Ladakh and enjoy scenic beauty and enchanting sights which are not seen anywhere else in the Greater Himalayas region.
The Governor observed that another important aspects of such camps is that they enable the Cadets from different parts of India to experience the glorious pluralistic ethos of the country and interact with people of different religions, languages, customs and lifestyles. He added that unity in diversity is the real strength of our country, which needs to be constantly strengthened and promoted.
The Governor observed that the SNIC is an example of opportunities which the NCC provides for the youth. He noted that India has deep rooted cultural values and, over the years, the NCC has played a significant role in exposing youth to our cultural traditions and ethical values. He stressed that besides character building of the youth NCC training grooms smart young boys and girls for entry into the three Defence Forces. The Governor appreciated the NCC, J&K Directorate, for carrying their activities to the remote areas like Ladakh, Doda and Kishtwar and complimented Maj. Genl. Neeraj Verma, Additional Director General, National Cadet Corps Directorate, J&K for getting an Air Wing sanctioned for J&K NCC.
In his welcome address, Major General Neeraj Verma, Additional Director General, National Cadet Corps, Jammu and Kashmir Directorate, gave a resume of the aims and objectives of the Camp. On the occasion, the Cadets presented a captivating cultural programme based on the theme of composite cultural heritage of the country.
Later, the Governor visited the motivational stalls put up on the occasion and interacted with the NCC cadets.
