JAMMU, Nov 14: N. N. Vohra, Governor, as Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and the four State Universities, has asked the Vice Chancellors to keep him regularly informed about the outcome of the Campus Recruitment programme.
Earlier, he had also addressed the Chairmen of several eminent companies to undertake campus recruitments in the Katra and Srinagar Campuses. Side by side, he had asked the Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University to get together BE, ME & MBA students of all Universities in the Jammu division and the Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University to do likewise for all the Universities in the Kashmir division, so that the recruiting companies could have a good number from whom they could select the best.
The Governor reviewed the Campus Recruitment programme yesterday for the past year and for the first 10 months of 2013. It was disclosed that 519 students were selected in 2012, of whom 350 were from Kashmir University, in various disciplines, followed next by 136 from the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University.
During January – October 2013, 900 students were selected, of whom 734 were from Kashmir University and 137 from the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University.
As far as the Jammu University is concerned, 43 students secured job placements during the period under review and, besides, 1209 were selected under UDAAN scheme.
In the two State Agriculture Universities, 19 students were selected but all of them did not take up the offered assignments. It was stated that that this is perhaps due to a significantly large number of students in SKUAST-K, followed next by SKUAST-J, have succeeded, after sitting for competitive examinations, in securing well paid scholarships for pursuing higher studies.
The Chancellor has again addressed the Vice Chancellors to further invigorate the Campus Recruitment programme and thanked TCS, BHEL, NTPC, WIPRO, AXIS Bank, YES Bank, AIRTEL, HDFC Bank, HCL, AMUL, INFOTECH, HCCL, ICICI Bank, MAHINDRA LOGISTICS, IFFCO, Bank of India and all other companies which have been deputing teams to undertake campus recruitments. The Chancellor has also thanked the Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy for taking the initiative to step up officer level selections in J&K.
