JAMMU, Aug 31: N.N. Vohra, Governor, visited Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME) at Kakriyal, today and inspected the to-date status of the 8 accommodation complexes which are under construction in the area adjoining the hospital complex.
In this context, accompanied by Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishni Devi Shrine Board, the Governor visited Ashvin Bhawan, Dhanvantri Bhawan, Aayush Bhawan, Sushruta Bhawan, Nivedita Bhawan, Charak Bhawan, Sanjeevani Bhawan and Aashray Bhawan. Buildings costing about Rs. 45 crore, will provide hostels and residential accommodation for doctors, para-medical and ancillary staff and nurses. There is also a Sarai for the attendants of patients and a Guest House.
The Governor also reviewed the implementation status of ongoing work to ensure water supply, backup power supply, construction of Sewage Treatment Plants and completion of roads.
During the course of the power point presentation made by the Chief Executive Officer, the Governor was also apprised about the recommendations of the Security Review Committee constituted for ensuring the security of SMVDIME. For making this complex eco-friendly, the Governor urged the CEO to plant ornamental plants along the entire length of the campus roads and install rain water harvesting and solar energy systems in the complex.
Meanwhile, Mr Vohra visited the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and held extensive discussions with Prof. Sudhir K. Jain, Vice Chancellor of the University, to review all the important aspects of functioning of this important institution of higher learning, the only residential University in the State.
The Governor also undertook a round of the University and inaugurated the extension blocks of the hostels. The Basohli Boys Hostel now has another 75 beds and the Vaishnavi Girl’s Hostel has a block of 89 new beds. The Governor went around the rooms and checked the facilities which are provided in the new rooms to the boys and girls.
The Governor was briefed by Prof. Sudhir K. Jain, Vice Chancellor, Prof. V. Verma, Dean Faculty of Engineering and Ajay Khajuria, Registrar, SMVDU, about the various ongoing projects in the University, the budgetary issues, the new schools to be opened, the vacancies to be filled etc.
The Governor suggested to the VC to strengthen access control and install CCTV cameras at various identified points for round-the-clock monitoring and surveillance. He also reiterated his directions about the care of the main lawns and the lawns appurtenant to the hostel buildings and for flowering shrubs and trees to be planted in the entire campus.
