Govt averse to supreme sacrifices of soldiers: NPP

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Sept 20:  Eulogizing the supreme sacrifices made by the ‘soldiers’ of ‘Dogra’ and ‘Bihar Regiments’ who lost their lives in Pak sponsored terror attack in Uri, NPP leader and former Minister Harsh Dev Singh has  criticized the BJP-PDP Govt in the State for the delay  in announcing the ex-gratia and compensation to the families of martyrs.
Condemning the highly apathetic attitude of J&K Govt,  NPP leader pointed out that Uttar Pradesh Govt had announced an ex-gratia of  Rs 20 lakh each to next of the kin of slain martyrs and Bihar Govt had announced 5 lakh  each to the family members of martyrs with similar announcements made by several other States excepting J&K. He said that it was noteworthy and laudable that several States had announced ex-gratia to the martyrs despite none of them belonging to their respective States. J&K on the other hand, he regretted, had failed to show such gesture despite the slain solders having made supreme sacrifice on its own soil, for safety and security of its own people.
He regretted that J&K Govt has been dis-regarding its martyrs even in the past with no ex-gratia having been paid to the Army jawans who sacrificed their lives for honour of the nation and its flag.  Mr  Singh pointed out that despite highest sacrifices of several warriors of the State particularly of 6 martyrs of ‘Six Dogra Regiment’ who were killed in Manipur attack last year, Naik Mool Raj of Jakh who was killed while fighting Pak militants in Pathankot, constable Santosh Singh and constable Azad Chand who were killed in 2013 Handwara militant attack besides others, the J&K Govt failed to even mention their supreme sacrifices.
Strongly condemning the BJP-PDP Govt for failure to recognize and honour the great sacrifices of valiant jawans of Military and Para-military forces, Mr Singh called for posthumous awards to such martyrs with immediate announcement of adequate ex-gratia to their families.  He further condemned the State Govt  for its neglect in payment of ex-gratia to the family of Chamel Singh, who was killed in Kot Lakhpat Jail of Pakistan.
