JAMMU, Dec 17: Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma has said that Government was committed to promote the sports activities in every nook and corner of the State. He said sport activity is pivotal for channelizing the energy of youth in the positive direction besides keeping them bodily and mentally fit.
Addressing the spectators who gathered at Police Auditorium to witness the Body Building Championship, here today, the Minister said that sports inculcate the sense of responsibility, discipline and patriotism amongst the youth and parents to encourage their children to take part in the sports activities voluntarily. He said Government has taken several initiatives to promote the sports activities, especially in the rural areas to involve rural youth in the sports. In this direction focused attention is being given to develop sports infrastructure in every nook and corner to create sports opportunities for the rural youth, he maintained.
The 2-day Body Building Championship-2012 has been organized by the Body Building Association Jammu and Kashmir (Regd.) in collaboration with Indian Body Builders Federation. On the first day of championship, more than 100 participants from 9 different categories will take part and J&K will be chosen from amongst them. During the second phase of the event on December 18, the inter State Body Building Championship will be held wherein the body builders of northern States will take part. The event will elect Mr North India from the participating body builders.
President J&K Body Building Association (JKBBA), C L Dogra, General Secretary (JKBBA), Rajesh Dutta and other office bearer of the Association were present on the occasion.
Earlier Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla today declared 2-day Body Building Championship Mr J&K-2012, open.
The championship has been organized by Body Building Association J&K (BBAJK) in collaboration with Indian Body Builders Federation at Police Auditorium.
About 150 body builders from across the Jammu and Kashmir State are expected to participate in 2- day Championship.
Commissioner of Customs and Central Excise, J&K Rajesh Puri was also present on the occasion, as guest of honor.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Bhalla said that sports are imperative for over all personality development of youth as these help in inculcating discipline among them. He said that the Government was endeavouring hard to create adequate sports infrastructure in every nook and corner of the State to provide youth an opportunity to excel in the sports of their choice.
