Govt committed to upgrade power infrastructure: Vikar

JAMMU, Feb 15: Maintaining that Government is committed to upgrade infrastructural capability of Power Development Department, the Minister of State for Power, Technical Education and Information, Vikar Rasool has said that by doing so we would be providing the requisite power supply to the people besides generating large employment opportunities for the youth.
The Minister was interacting with the officers of the Power Development Department during his inspection of the Gladni Power Grid. He was accompanied by Chief Engineer, PDD, Ajay Gupta and other officers of the department.
Mr. Vikar said that the officers should work in close coordination to ensure that people get the requisite rationalized power supply besides ensuring proper maintenance of the assets of the department. He said that the power is one of the core sectors and the necessary steps have already been initiated to augment the infrastructural capabilities and create new ones.
The Minister was told that an additional 50 MVA transformers have already been installed which would help in addressing overloading problem during summer and peak hours. He also inspected the Rajouri-Poonch Transmission Line operating from Gladni. He was told that an effective mechanism has already been put in place to get feedback from people regarding their electricity problems.
The Minister earlier visited Government Polytechnic Jammu. He was accompanied by Director Technical Education and other senior officers of the department. The Minister while interacting with the faculty members maintained that the role of technical and vocational courses has registered great demand in the present age as it can equip the students with various job related trades and for easily setting up their individual units. He said that education sector has been accorded top priority by the Government and several schemes have been introduced for the welfare of the students.
