NEW DELHI, Nov 21: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said here today that Government is constantly monitoring ‘demonetisation’ drive and is open to all kinds of inputs received from any part of the country, for which, there is a mechanism in place to come up with immediate response. Meanwhile, he said, the average time taken in the printing of currency notes to the availability for distribution has been drastically reduced from over 20 days to just about 6 days.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, whenever there is an information received about any kind of inconvenience or untoward procedure being followed anywhere in the country with regard to demonetization process, it is immediately brought to the notice of the concerned Departments and agencies for remedial steps. He appreciated the spirit with which common people across the country were ready to brave the initial hardship and had whole-heartedly come forward to welcome and cooperate in executing the demonetisation decision.
Speaking to media persons outside the Parliament, Dr Jitendra Singh reacted sharply to Rahul Gandhi’s statement that Narendra Modi was behaving like a “Super PM” and said, such a thoughtless remark amounts to disregard and disrespect of the people’s mandate who have elected Narendra Modi as Prime Minister with an overwhelming majority . Without naming Rahul Gandhi, he said, if a person, who aspires to become the Prime Minister of India, showed such scant regard for India’s democratic system, then it is for the people of India to judge whether he actually deserves to be elected to the highest public office of country or not.
In response to those who allege that the decision was taken in haste, Dr Jitendra Singh said, they are saying so out of ignorance because such a decision happens once in a century and therefore, they have no idea or experience about it. A decision like this, anywhere in the world, is always taken and executed only in this way, he said, because of the element of secrecy, confidentiality and surprise associated with it.
Earlier, Dr Jitendra Singh received a representation from a delegation of BJP leaders from Uttar Pradesh led by Member of Parliament Lok Sabha, Devendra Singh alias Bhole Singh, regarding certain issues related to functioning of the toll posts. The representation was immediately forwarded by Dr Jitendra Singh to the concerned officials in the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
