SRINAGAR, Dec 26: Maintaining that the Government has ensured sustained development of the state on equitable basis, besides ensuring the democratic decentralization of powers to the grass root level by putting in place a vibrant Panchayati Raj system, the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar today said certain parties due to their myopic vision are trying hard to mislead the people for their vested political interests.
The Minister was addressing a huge gathering of people after laying the foundation stone of the Model Village at Keegam being constructed by the department of the Rural Development at an estimated cost of Rs 1.12 crore in the Shopian district here today.
MLA Shopian, Abdul Razaq Zawoora, Director Rural Development Kashmir, Mir Altaf Ahmad, Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Advocate Shabir Ahmad Kullay, ADDC Shopian and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
The Minister said visible change has been registered by launching development networks in rural areas across the State and developmental activities are underway with progressive pace which would go a long way in changing the socio-economic profile of people living in these areas. He said by setting up of Panchayati Raj System the State public representatives have been empowered with 16 departments.
“Clear instructions have been passed to the officers to involve the Panchs and Sarpanchs in the implementation and formulation of various welfare schemes launched by the Government for the sustained development of the rural areas and in this regard a senior officer of the rank of the Additional District Development Commissioner has been nominated as Nodal Officer and any official showing disregard to the orders of empowerment of the Panchayati Raj Institutions would not be tolerated”, he added.
Mr. Sagar said that the certain parties by resorting to falsehood and lies are trying their best to mislead the people, but the history stands testimony to the fact that they have been responsible for enactment of certain draconian laws, which have inflicted miseries on the people of the state. He said that they are trying their best to negate the achievements registered by the present Government in the various fields of life but the people are smart enough to understand their mechanizations.
Mr. Sagar asked people to take maximum benefits from the Government schemes being implemented for the welfare and economic development. He urged upon youth to involve them in various employment generation schemes including SKEWPY, HIMAYAT, UDAAN besides other entrepreneurship schemes, so that they are able to earn their livelihood with prosperity and dignity and contribute their bit in socio-economic development.
The Minister later inspected the pace of work on the Mini Secretariat Complex being constructed at Shopian with an estimated cost of Rs. 36 crore and directed the officers to ensure its early completion.
